About free DVD rental trials

What is a free DVD rental trial?
Online DVD rental providers offer free trials so you can test out the service. Usually these free trials last anywhere from two weeks to one month. Currently LOVEFiLM, Outnow and Lidl are offering a free 30 day trial. That means you won't pay until you have been receiving the service for 30 days. You'll only be billed after the 30 day period if you continue to use the service.

Which is the best free trial to take?
LOVEFiLM has the most generous free trial as it also comes with a free gift voucher. To get your free voucher, all you have to do is sign up using this link and add 10 films to your rental list.

As long as you receive at least one film in the post you'll get the gift voucher (it will be sent to you in the post). You can still have the gift voucher even if you decide to cancel after you have received your first disc. Just make sure that you cancel and return all your discs within the 30 day free trial period and you won't be charged.

How can I be sure I won't be charged when the free trial has ended?
You won't be charged for a free trial as long as you return the disc and cancel the service within the free trial period.

For example, if your free trial is 30 days we recommend that you call the provider to cancel in your third week. You then have enough time to make sure that the discs are returned within your free trial period. If you've cancelled but the discs haven't been sent back within 30 days then you'll be charged for another month. With a 14 day trial period you have less time to make sure that the discs are returned. We recommend that you pick a longer free trial period so that you have the option to cancel should you want to.

Do any of the DVD rental providers tie you into a contract?
None of the DVD rental providers tie you into a contract. You can stop using the service at anytime you like. To cancel all you need to do is give the DVD rental provider a call and ask to cancel. They may try to get you to stay by giving you special offers but they will always let you cancel.

Is there a limit to the number of free trials I can take?
Yes, you can only take one free trial per household for each provider. This also applies to companies like Tesco who are powered by LOVEFiLM. For example, if you've already had a free trial from Tesco you won't be eligable for a free trial with LOVEFiLM because they are run by the same company. The same applies to Lidl and Empire which are both run by Outnow. If you've already had a free trial with LOVEFiLM you will be able to take one with Outnow though as it's a seperate company. Both Outnow and LOVEFiLM offer a 30 day free trial.
