What is online DVD rental?
Online DVD rental lets you rent DVDs by post. You simply sign up online with any of the providers listed above, pick the films you want to rent and they’ll be delivered by post. To find out more visit our how DVD rental works page.
How do I compare online DVD rental plans?
To compare plans for all the providers use the table directly above. It compares the price per month for the most common / popular type of DVD rental plans that all providers have.
The cheaper plans are limited. This means you get a set number of discs per month. Once you’ve had all your discs delivered you'll have to wait until the next month to receive more. Alternatively, you can select an unlited plan which doesn’t impose a cap on the number of discs you can receive. With unlimited plans you can choose how many discs you receive at once. We’ve compared the prices for both types of plans.
The table above gives you a quick snap shot of how providers compare for equivalent plans. In this table we’ve compared the like for like plans that are commonly available. For the full list of packages for each provider please visit the provider pages by clicking on the logos above. You can also see what each company offers at a glance by visiting the compare DVD rental services page.
How do I decide which DVD rental plan is the right one for me?
Plans are tailored based on usage. Firstly, you need to think about how many DVDs you are likely to watch in a month. If you don’t think that you’ll watch any more than one a week a limited package will be the best value option. If you’re likely to watch more then we recommend you go for an unlimited plan.
Also, consider how quickly you’re likely to watch and return the discs. If you find that you’re not sending them back frequently enough then an unlimited plan might not be the best value for money. Instead, you could consider a pay as you go DVD rental plan where you only pay for what you watch and the price per DVD is considerably cheaper than renting from the high street.
You might also want to consider whether extra features such as games rental or online video streaming are important to you. If they are we recommend that you choose LOVEFiLM as currently they are the only provider to offer this.
Or, if getting your hands on the latest new movie releases is the most important thing then Blockbuster might be a good choice. Because of their relationship with the studios they get access to handful of films first. LOVEFiLM is also a good choice for new releases - their sheer size means they have the buying power to make sure they have enough stock.
How do I sign up for a free trial?
Signing up for a free trial is easy to do. Just click through using the “get free trial” buttons above and you’ll be asked to fill out a short online form. You’ll need to give your address and credit / debit card details. Your card won’t be charged until the free trial period has ended.
If you cancel before your free trial period ends you won’t be charged. You just need to make sure that the discs are back with the provider before the end of the free trial. If you’ve got a one month free trial we suggest that you ring to cancel in week three and then put the discs back in the post straight away.
It’s worth remembering that there are no contracts with DVD rental. That means there’s nothing to stop you picking a high value plan for your free trial and the switching to a lower value plan once the trial has ended.
