Their lowest price plan is 54p per month cheaper than LOVEFiLM’s £4.99 option. Plus, their unlimited plan with one disc a month is also 54p cheaper than LOVEFiLM.
So how does the service compare? We recommend that you read the full reviews for both OutNow (Lidl is powered by OutNow) and LOVEFiLM.
In summary, Lidl is a basic DVD rental option without all the bells and whistles. LOVEFiLM offers you a lot more such as access to thousands of films to watch online for not much more each month. But, if you’re on a tight budget and just want to rent films without all the extra services then Lidl could be a good choice for you.
Choice
Lidl Movies has the same level of choice as OutNow. Plenty of movies and TV box sets to pick from. At the moment games rental isn’t offered but OutNow may be adding this in the future.
If you want a basic DVD rental package and are not too worried about obscure titles then you should be able to find everything you want.
Service
You’ll get the same level of service that you can expect from OutNow and all films are sent by first class post. There isn’t any difference in terms of how you’ll be treated as a customer. The website also offers all the same functionality but is Lidl branded.
Delivery time
Lidl Movies use first class mail and will aim to deliver discs within 24 hours of receiving one back.
Website features
The Lidl Movies site is easy to use and offers the same functionality as the OutNow site. The content looks to be exactly the same but is using a blue Lidl design.
The partnership is relatively new so all the same site content has been carried across. It seems to be quite a successful venture for OutNow so they may well keep this going for sometime.
One of the downsides of going to a re-seller such as Lidl (or Tesco for LOVEFiLM) is that the partner website doesn’t get updated at the same rate as the main site. This doesn’t seem to be the case yet with Lidl however.
We’ve pulled out some key features of the website below.
1) Trailers
Big blockbuster films have trailers uploaded. The trailers are decent quality and the player is plenty big enough. Older films don’t yet have trailers uploaded though.
2) Reviews and ratings
Members can rate films and leave reviews. The rating feature is very helpful and there are certainly enough ratings for it to be useful. The reviews section is a bit sparse though and we couldn't find many that were useful.
